Literature Review

A​‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍​ssessment task details and instructions This assessment requires the production of a report documenting progress on your BIT Project. The main area of focus is the development of your literature review which underpins the project, and the report will also provide updated information on project aims and objectives, planned primary research and digital artefact development, and project planning. This report is a development of your proposal and you may use relevant content from your proposal to inform the interim report. You should use the feedback on your proposal to improve and refine the earlier content. The literature review is a central component of your project – what is already known about your chosen topic area? You are expected to conduct a review of appropriate literature. This should be relevant to your chosen topic, so will contain specialist information on the subject area. Your literature review should also be used to help you research the planned implementation of your digital artefact – so you might include content on e.g. app design tools, development methodologies, user centred design, SEO etc as appropriate to your project. Critical Literature Review The critical literature review should present a substantial review of literature relevant to your project (knowledge in your chosen topic area).​‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍​ Therefore, the content of everyone’s literature review will be different. There should be critical evaluation of articles, discussion and clear argument (comparing and contrasting the main points) which places your project in context and shows strong justification for your choice of project. You must decide which areas of literature are significant for your project and why. Your literature review must do more than describe literature; you should critically discuss factors of the literature that are most relevant. To be ‘critical’, you are required to read around the subject area, some articles will support your ideas, and some will not. You need to demonstrate knowledge of both perspectives and consider how these views are relevant to your work. You should have clear reasons for your assessment of the literature and by justifying these points you will be stating your critical analysis and judgement (in support and in opposition) to your project ideas. Methodology This section should provide a brief overview of the methodology that you will use for your primary research and digital artefact development. You should indicate how this builds on what you have learned from conducting the literature review. You should state if ethical approval will be required for your project, and include evidence that you have applied for this (e.g. a screen Project Plan This should be presented a table and the plan should cover the whole period for BIT Project 1 and 2. You should show progress against your plan to date, and make sure that you update the future plans in light of progress to date. Conclusions A short section which draws together the main points and central arguments underpinning ​‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍​your project.
