Journal #1 is worth 5% or 5 points. This entry is 1-2 pages. Explanation for grading follows:
Grading Components
Journal Entry #1: Research Question (Based the research proposal questionnaire)
This journal entry requires that you
1) Select a clinical problem or issue of interest to study and formulate statement of the
problem (SOP)
2) Use the one research question that you developed, which is called for by
the statement of the problem
3) Explain the purpo.se of the research and the implications to nursing
4) Select two articles (one quantitative and one qualitative) that address your topic of
interest
a. These two articles will be presented in yourliterature search presentation
b. Must list these articles on the References page
5) Academic and scholarly writing
Use the Following Headings (Use APA Level 1 or Level 2 format)
1) Statement of the Problem
a. Need 1-2 references that support your clinical problem or issue of interest
b. Provide statistics (if applicable)
c. Can use articles that are not primary research (e.g., literature reviews, metaanalysis)
2) Research Question
3) Study Purpose (may need references)
a. Discuss the purpose of this study (e.g., to examine or explore the problem)
b. Discuss the implications of why this study is important to nursing
All papers must meet standards for scholarly writing and graduate level work. Your paper
should be well written (clarity), have the appropriate type and number of references, and
meet APA style and formatting standards.
Clarity, References, and APA Grading Criteria
Clarity:
Mechanics: Correct sentence structure, grammar, and appropriate capitalization. Correct
punctuation and style, no spelling errors, no run-on sentences, no sentence fragments, no
incomplete thoughts, and dangling participles.
Language: No medical jargon, no colloquialisms (slang and informal ways of speaking) unless
using this language for a reason (repeating a conversation or giving an example).
