E- Literature Review of Afrocentric Research Methodology

When research collects information from human participants, the participants’ worldview, history, and cultural context will influence the outcome of the study. There is increased recognition that for research to be meaningful in an African context, an Afrocentric paradigm should be followed in which indigenous knowledge and methodologies are used.

Do an in-depth literature review of Afrocentric research methodology by focussing on the following:

a) Define the concepts Afrocentricity, Afro-sensed research and indigenous knowledge.
b) Discuss the characteristics of Afrocentric research methods
c) Explain the framework for indigenous research.
d) Analyse the core considerations to research methodologies in the African context.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:

Assignment length: 4000 to 5000 words (excluding the title page, table of contents, and list of references) using Arial font size 12 and 1.5 line spacing.

A title page, table of contents with page numbers, introduction, appropriately numbered sections, conclusion and comprehensive, technically correct, list of references should be included.

The scientific presentation and technical care of the assignment will be taken into consideration when a mark is awarded. You will be penalised if you merely reproduce information source material or summarise it as it is expected of you to integrate and apply the literature to answer the assignment question. You will furthermore forfeit vital marks if the assignment lacks proper referencing and technical care.

You are expected to consult a minimum of five sources in addition to the prescribed book when you write an assignment on honours level.
