The entire argument should include three parts: an intro statement, support, and a closing statement (very similar to an essay)
At least five sources should be cited within your presentation, with three located through the TCC Library databases
The statement should be roughly five minutes long (You may read directly from a written version, as the instructor models during class)

Guidelines:
Choosing a topic: You may take a position on the same topic you chose for the Rogerian Essay, and focus on one side, using some of the same research, to
make your preparation easier. The instructor’s example position is OFF LIMITS. You may choose a different position or issue related to gun control, if you
wish.

Intro statement:
Provide an interesting opening/hook to capture the listener’s attention. Consider how you can convince your audience (those who are neutral or who hold the
opposing stance) to care about the topic! Give a brief summary of the issue’s background, which may cite sources as needed, and take a clear stance/
position on the issue. Briefly mention your reasons for your position.
Support:
Elaborate on your reasons for your position and specifically reference sources for support (name of author, title of article, date published, qualifications, etc.).
Select your sources according to the appeals you wish to evoke in your audience. You should also respectfully acknowledge and refute an opposing
viewpoint, using the formats modeled in Concession-counter argument examples.
Closing statement:
Just as opening statements are essential to make a good first impression, closing remarks allow for a brief summary of the most important takeaways, and
a lasting, memorable thought for your audience.
