Summary of Companion Paws Therapy Dog Property
Companion Paws Canada
Companion Paws Canada, brought to you by The LifeLine Canada Foundation (TLC), is dedicated to supporting Canadians in need while providing a second chance for pets by rescuing, pairing and training them, with those who would benefit from a companion therapy animal. One of the ways that we do this is through the Companion Paws Personal Therapy Dog and Assisted Therapy Dog Adoption Program, the first of its kind in Canada and serving Canadians since 2017. It brings a proven and effective therapy for self-management, along with a
Medical studies have shown that companion animals significantly improve mental and physical health, including
reducing stress, depression and anxiety symptoms.
Paws Operates 2 types of Programs
1) Adoption Program
Personal Therapy Dog https://companionpaws.ca/therapy-dog-adoption/
Assisted Therapy Dog https://companionpaws.ca/assisted-therapy-dog-adoption/ 2) Certify Your Own Dog Program
Personal, Assisted and Visiting Designations https://companionpaws.ca/therapy-dog-programs/certify-your-own-dog/ 3 Types of Therapy Dog Designations
Personal Therapy Dog – First and only program of its kind in Canada. A certified Personal therapy dog (Companion Paws emotional support dog) is a trained, temperament tested, evaluated and certified dog that brings positive mental health benefits to their owners/handlers.
Assisted Therapy Dog – Assisted Therapy Dogs join their handler/owner (typically educators, teachers, psychologists, counsellors and doctors), at their workplace to help their students, clients, customers or patients.
Visiting Therapy Dog – Typically, Visiting Therapy Dogs visit events, shelters, hospitals, schools, hospices, nursing homes and more. Unlike service dogs, therapy dogs are encouraged to interact with a variety of people while they are on-duty. Everyone at Companion Paws is a dog lover. We take great care to only qualify dogs who enjoy interacting with complete strangers. Where someone needs unconditional love and unwavering support, these very special furry friends step up and provide it in spades.
T Paws Therapy Dog Resort Plan
50 acre beautifully gardened, trailed healing oasis with Companion Paws dogs in training throughout the property. This tranquil setting will boast a holistic approach in a unique environment to find healing, balance, and joy that contributes to their personal growth and mental wellbeing.
Dogs have been proven beneficial, not only for the human individuals involved, but also for the dogs themselves. Each being experiences positive results from the attention received from the other, according to studies between humans and dogs.
Personal and Assisted Therapy Dogs are approaches to mental health care that incorporate animals into the
psychotherapy process, emphasizing the bond created during human-animal interactions. Emotional recovery and positive psychological transformation often occurs when the relationship between an individual and the therapy animal grows.
Why rescue dogs can make such good therapy dogs? Many rescue dogs make especially good companions for humans. They are sensitive, reliable and have remarkable energy – qualities that enable them to work as therapy dogs.
People of any age can see benefits from interacting with animals. This unique bond can help the person develop traits like patience, respect, empathy, acceptance, confidence, assertiveness, and responsibility.
Studies have shown animal-assisted psychotherapy also has a very positive impact on aging individuals and the elderly. Dogs can be especially effective for people who used to have dogs or other animals but are no longer able to care for their own animal. Being in the presence of pets again can help remind people of the love they had for previous animals, stirring memories and reducing loneliness.
