Sociotechnical Analysis Assignment

At this time, all clinical settings have implemented some form of EHRs. Visit a clinical setting and walk through the process of performing a sociotechnical analysis based on the interactive sociotechnical framework from the website Links to an external site.. Refer to page 513 in the McBride and Tietze textbook.
The following components will be addressed in the analysis and presented in a Voice Thread presentation (Access Voice Thread from the Assignment link in Canvas):
1. Discuss the type of clinical setting (general location [rural, urban; city, state]; private practice, clinic, hospital, long-term care facility, etc; approximate number of patients on an annual basis; number of nurses [UAPs, LPNs, RNs], APRNs, physicians.
2. Examine and discussion of all interactions of the environment and end users’ actions as to how the technology is used in workflow. Describe the technology used (brand of software, type of hardware [PC, COWs, Desktop, laptop, tablet, cellphone, etc].
3. Document the sociotechnical analysis. Include a flowchart with all major elements of the sociotechnical analysis specific to the clinical setting analyzed on one slide. (This should be similar to Figure 20.10 in the text, but with specifics for the chosen setting).
4. Define unintended consequences.
5. Discuss with clinicians any unintended consequences they believe might be present with the EHR.
6. Note infrastructure, including the physical layout, that might contribute to inefficiency, ineffectiveness, or problems with workflow.
7. Note any EHR/technology design factors within the software that might be a contributing element to the problem.
