Other Information The annotated bibliography is a separate grade from Essay 2;
the same sources and topic will ideally be used for both
assignments
Purpose of the assignment: For this assignment, you will be asked to research articles based on the
essay 2 topic. Two articles have been provided for you already. You will locate additional research in
GALILEO and use this research to create an Annotated Bibliography.
Purpose of the Annotated Bibliography: The next essay for this course requires academic research
and the incorporation of sources into an analysis of the selected problem. In preparation for the
formal annotated bibliography, please perform research using GALILEO to find appropriate,
academic, peer-reviewed articles*. All articles listed on the Annotated Bibliography must be
evaluated. After brainstorming on the topic, read the two articles, and research an additional one to
read. Craft an MLA formatted annotated bibliography with the three sources. Please follow the format
demonstrated in the links within this folder.
Steps to begin researching:
 Brainstorm topic on your own.
 Read articles provided (one is in GALILEO, so you will have to locate it).
 Research other articles in GALILEO.
 Evaluate the quality of articles available within GALILEO.
Basic Guidelines:
 The Annotated Bibliography is a collection of sources that could be used to answer a research
question with an explanation of the source and its usefulness.
 An Annotated Bibliography serves as a collection of sources has two basic parts: the citation and the
annotation.
 The MLA formatted citation is formed in the same way the citation is formed for the Works Cited page
– annotation will be below each citation.
 The annotation is formed in one to three paragraphs (a summary, an assessment, and reflection on
the source).
ADDITIONAL INFO:
 This is a separate assignment from essay 2, although the same topic is used for both
assignments.
 Remember, you are NOT writing a complete research paper at this point. This is the
collection of sources you compile before writing the research paper.
 The research from the annotated bibliography can be used in your Essay 2.
 You may find additional/different sources after submitting the final draft of the
annotated bibliography; these new/additional/different sources do not have to be
retroactively added to the annotated bibliography – just incorporate what is needed for
essay 2. They must be academic sources.
