1) Determining barriers and facilitators can be both challenging and overwhelming, as various methods, yet few systematic approaches, to doing so exist.
Reflecting on your evidence-to-practice gap, select an assessment approach (e.g., focus groups, interviews, questionnaires, etc.) to determining barriers and
facilitators in your local context to implementing your evidence-based practice. Guided by the theory or framework you identified in Week 6, develop some
questions for your barriers/facilitators assessment. Post 5 – 10 of your questions to the discussion board and describe how the theory or framework
informed your choice of questions. Provide feedback to one of your peer’s and use this exercise to refine a list of questions for gathering barriers and
facilitators for your assignment.
2) To identify barriers and facilitators, researchers often use qualitative study methods (e.g., interviews, focus groups) and develop their own questions.
However, there are a number of tools that have been developed and empirically tested (e.g., BARRIERS Scale, Evidence Based Practice Attitude Scale
(EBPAS), Context Assessment Instrument (CAI), etc.). Choose one of the tools listed here (https://ktbooks.ca/knowledge-translation-in-healthcare/summarized-book-content/knowledge-creation/assessing-barriers-and-facilitators-to-knowledge-use/) or in Table 1 of the Chaudoir et al., (2013) article.
Provide a brief descriiption on your overall perceptions of the tool. Questions to reflect on include:
a) What did you like about the tool?
b) What are the limitations to the tool?
c) Would you use the tool in addition to or in replace of qualitative study methods to assess barriers and facilitators, and why?
