At this point in the class, you have an understanding about the various criminological theories and how each one can be applied to social policy and the weaknesses of the policies. The time has come for you become a theorist by taking what you have learned and creating an integrated theory. You should first explain each of the theories you use and then explain how the integrated theory will be stronger than each of the individual theories. In a search bar type “criminology theories” and search for articles in a data base that concern your theories.
You should have at least 3 references for each page of text that you write. That means if the body of your paper is 2 pages long you should have at least 6 references.
Then you should summarize the research that you found. Notice, I said summarize. That is not copy or cut/paste the information from the articles into a document. Do not use direct quotes. You should read the article or articles and then explain the information in your own words. After your review, you need to provide your perception of the information in your articles and the topic in general. Your perception needs to stand on solid empirical ground and not just a casual opinion.
You must include the reference citations for your articles. I will not grade a report that does not include the citation(s). Except for the textbook, all references must come from the databases found online and must be no less than 10 years old. You can use websites or news articles as references.
The assignment must be written using the APA format for text, in text citations, and references. If you are not familiar with APA you can buy the APA handbook, find resources on the internet, use the lecture with this assignment as a guide, or get assistance from a reference librarian in the CGTC library.
The minimum number of words for the body of the paper is 750 words. When ready to submit – Use the “Drop Box” below then the “Browse My Computer” button to attach your “WORD” document.
Do not forget to name your theory. You have that right since it is YOUR theory. Your perception needs to stand on solid empirical ground and not just a casual opinion. Your report should have multiple headings-one for each theory that you use (two is a workable number), one for the integrated theory, and one for references.
In writing a report you should remember to:
Tell them what you’re going to tell them, (Introduction)
Tell them, (Body)
Tell them what you just told them. (Conclusion)
