In order to complete this assignment, you need to have first already watched the movie called The True Cost, which was assigned as part of your work in Module 9.
After having watched this movie, you are required to write an essay of approximately 1200-1500 words in length. The purpose of your essay will be to develop an argument about the following question:
– What (if anything) should be done to improve work and employment conditions in the global apparel industry?
In developing your argument, you are required to choose (and clearly identify) one of the five theoretical perspectives/paradigms (summarized in the assigned reading from John Godard in Module 10, and discussed in the final class) as your preferred perspective, and another one as your opposing perspective. You must then develop your argument “from” your preferred perspective, while addressing counter-arguments that you expect would be made by somebody rooted more in the opposing perspective that you chose.
External research beyond course materials and class discussion is not required.
A high quality essay will:
– illustrate a strong detailed grasp of the perspective(s) chosen and of the kinds of views/arguments/concerns about the given factual scenario (Ie working conditions in global apparel industry) that would tend to be associated with that perspective.
– explicitly draw on the various ideas concerning the different potential mechanisms or models for governing global employment conditions, outlined in Module 9,
– be well organized, and well written.
