1. Briefly explain the “Revolution in Astronomy” and the roles played by Ptolemy, Copernicus
Kepler, Galileo and Newton (CH 16)

2. Identify ONE of the individuals from the Enlightenment Period, cite their major work and
discuss their philosophy (CH 17)

3. Identify ONE of the Absolute Monarchs associated with the 5 major powers in Europe during
the 18th century and explain why they are considered important rulers. (CH 18)

4. What does the term “Thermidorean Reaction” refer to? Discuss why it happened and the
government that was established as a result. (CH 19)

5. Why did the Industrial Revolution begin in Great Britain? Discuss and trace the role of the factory in the early
Industrial Revolution. What made the factory system possible? What impact did it have on the lives of workers,
especially on women and children?

6. Did the Congress of Vienna represent a resurgence of old traditions, or the emergence of a new international
order? Or, perhaps, some of both?

7. Compare and contrast the unification of Italy with the unification of Germany. Which do you feel was harder
to accomplish and why?
