Before you write your synopsis, please make sure that you read the textbook, particularly the “How It’s Done” section at the end of chapters 9-11. Specifically, two examples on survey are on. pp. 157-8, an example on content analysis is on p. 140, and an example on experiment is on p. 180. Here are a few things for you to pay attention to:
1. Select an original study about media/communication, using one of the quantitative method of survey/content analysis/experiment, and published in or after 2015 in a scholarly journal. Avoid studies that used more than one method as it is very hard to interpret. A qualified study should include all info I require for your synopsis. While some quality studies use secondary data, I strongly encourage that you select a study that collects its own data. A study that uses secondary data may not include certain sections of info such as how the data were collected.
2. Follow the rubric and provide all required info. Use recommended headings to guide yourself and your readers. Paraphrase everything except for the RQs/Hs. All your submissions are checked through SafeAssign and you will be alerted when you are not paraphrasing enough. I review all your selected articles myself and your grades will suffer when I find that you’re not paraphrasing.
3. The Literature Review should be a summary of relevant literature that the author reviewed in your selected article. Remember that you’re not reviewing the literature; instead, you’re simply summarizing.
4. The Method should contain info about the sample, data collection procedures, and measurements of variables. This is a Methods course, therefore, I expect that you demonstrate your thorough understanding of each method under study.
5. The Findings should report relevant info to answer each of the RQs and address each of the Hs.
6. Complete citation is required that follows the APA style. I use that to retrieve the article myself as I grade your submission.
7. Name the file as “Yourlastname_Yourfirstname_synopsis#.doc” (or .docx). For example, your first synopsis will be Yourlastname_Yourfirstname_synopsis1.doc”
8. Submit it to the Assignments folder by Saturday of the designated week.
The same info applies to your future synopses, although the method may be different, and the synopsis # and due date will be different.
