Description and Outline of the Research Paper (in English only)
The student will study and research all the six specific areas mentioned below, in an effort of grasping and familiarizing with the topic and the main idea of this project.
a. Demographics: using the data from the United States Census of the respective years, the student will compare and analyze demographic changes – population, race, gender, life expectancy, median income, etc.
b. Statistics: using the information available in the “Bureau Statistics” http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/ and the “Uniform Crime Report” http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/ucr.htm the student will collect and analyze the required information
c. Types of crimes: using the information available at “Bureau Justice Statistics” http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/ and “Uniform Crime Report” http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/ucr.htm the student will collect and analyze the required information
d. Available criminal investigation techniques and resources: through the information available the student will study and present the law enforcement agency in charge for the time period and jurisdiction, including but not limited to hierarchy, general numbers, benefits, costs, effectiveness and others
e. Relationship between arrests and judicial procedures/trials: using the information available at the local clerk of court, particularly www.ninja9.org and http://trialstats.flcourts.org/ the student will collect and analyze the required information
f. Trends in civil and constitutional complaints: using the available information – local law enforcement, community agencies and/or law firms the student will study, collect, analyze and report the required information
Once having all the pertaining and necessary information gathered from the different sources here provided, the student will draft a written paper covering the following parts:
Introduction
• A summary detailing the purpose, objectives, and scope of your research, the method followed, and basic findings.
Body
• A detailed presentation of 2013 and 2018 Orlando, Florida and a second city of your choice criminal picture, including but not limited to the following:
o Compare the demographics and its significance
o Present and analyze the statistics available
o Discuss the similarities and differences in the types of crimes
o Emphasize the available resources and the dealing of criminal activity
o Compare and contrast the arrest and prosecutions made during the respective years
o Etc.
Conclusion
• A summary of the student findings along with student opinion
• A compare and contrast analysis of the two cities
References and/or Appendixes
The student must use different techniques such as descriptive writing, argumentative writing, and illustrations – tables, charts, and graphics all through the project.
The student will follow and apply all APA guidelines (spacing, format, font, etc.). The final product should not be less than fifteen (15) pages long including cover, table of content and references.
