Quantitative Evaluations

Felicia Man- One example of quantitative research design is descriptive research.
Descriptive research is described as research that is “typically used to obtain information about a particular phenomenon or characteristic of interest in an identified sample or population in their natural setting (Bloomfield, J., & Fisher, M. J. 2019, pg. 28)”. This type of quantitative research usually is conducted using large numbers of participants and does not obtain a control. An example is ” a researcher might conduct a descriptive quantitative research study, using a validated survey, to quantify how many people in a sample of patients hospitalized with severe spinal cord injury reported feelings of depression and anxiety during the past week (Bloomfield, J., & Fisher, M. J. 2019, pg. 28)”.
This can help improve quality of care and health outcomes by implementing changes based upon the results gathered by the study. In this specific example, information gathered is from the patient’s perspective which can contribute more to improving quality of care based upon their opinions. Once these factors are identified and changes have been made, in order to make sure they are improving the patient outcomes, the study can be done again or another way of evaluating the changes can be implemented.
