This is certainly the most conventional project you will complete for this class, but it doesn’t make it any less important. Literary analysis of one of the middle grade or young adult novels we’ve read in the class. This includes any book on the syllabus from Nate the Great on. You can even write about one of the books we haven’t discussed yet. (If you choose write about another book by one of the authors we’ve read, just let me know, but that should work too.) Here is what I expect of the essay:
A clear thesis argument that sheds light on one particular aspect of the book. Offer an argument that readers are not likely to come to on their own. Make sure it is specific.
The use of at least TWO outside sources to support your arguments. I want you read articles and essays about children’s literature.
Supporting arguments in each body paragraph to support your thesis.
Abundant and specific evidence from the text.
Proper MLA format and exact and proper citation of your sources, including parenthetical citations and a properly formatted Works Cited page.
