As a CJ professional you need to be knowledgeable in finding and interpreting Program Evaluation reports and/or articles on the area you or the agency you’re with is concerned about. You will hear and use the term “best practices” in whatever area of CJ you are in. Best Practices are those programs that have been found, by evaluation research, to be effective vs. those who have not before an agency goes to the expense and trouble of implementing a new problem.
For your research project please continue to study evaluation designs and best practices in the text and follow the instructions below:
Assume that you are an administrator of some CJ organization of your choice (police dept, juvenile justice agency, probation/corrections, etc.)
You are wanting to implement a new, innovative program for your agency (i.e. target a high crime neighborhood, develop a community policing team, create juvenile justice treatment program, drug/alcohol treatment for offenders, etc.). Whichever you are most interested in.
Once you have identified your agency and program conduct a literature review that relates to the program you want to implement. Find effective articles (minimum of 5) that will help you decide how to implement your program
Design your program that includes how you plan to implement it and how you plan to measure its effectiveness (experimental or quasi-experimental design – see Chapter 5)
Using these evaluations, how will you approach and continue to measure your program after a year since its implementation?
This is designed to be a major program that requires you to put together what you have learned in the class so far.
YOU MUST IMPLEMENT QUASI AND/OR EXPERIMENTAL DESIGNS IN THIS PAPER.
FORMAT
USE APA just like you would in any research and follow the guidelines below to prepare your final research paper labeling each section.
What is the program you are interesting in implementing? How would you go about determining if it might be effective or not?
Conduct a literature review on the program you are wanting to evaluate to see what has been done before and if it has worked or not (locate a minimum of 5 references and cite them fully).
What is the research question you are looking to evaluate?
What are the the independent and dependent variables you have found in your literature review.
Now develop your program based on the best practices and effectiveness of the programs you have located and reviewed in your literature review.
Include: Title of Program, purpose of program, how will you now plan to evaluate your program to determine if it is effective or not (program design, experimental or quasi-experimental design).
