Purpose — The purpose of this assignment is to get the students acquainted with recent developments in lighting technology and the lighting industry. Students will conduct independent research on artificial light sources, i.e. lamps. Each student will choose one type of electric lamps and will conduct extensive research into lamp technology and performance characteristics. Sources of information may include your MEEB textbook, professional journals and periodicals, IES publications, technical bulletins, manufacturer’s catalogs and websites, and the Internet at large.
Procedure
1. Conduct a general search of electric light sources to determine which type you want to focus on. Choose two types out of the following general categories for approval by the instructor. You may choose from the list below or propose your own lamp research topics. Attach an image or illustration for each choice.
Choice #1: T-12 Fluorescent Lamps
2. Conduct specific research on the lamp type you choose. Research the following performance qualities and suitable applications.
– Efficacy
– Color Temperature
– Color Rendering index
– Color Distribution Charts
– Initial Cost range
– Expected Operational Life
– Typical recommended applications
3. Report your findings in a comprehensive and coherent report (about 20-pages) in digital Power Point .ppt or .pptx or .pdf or .docxformat. Use the last page to identify and give credit to all of your sources of information.
