In the United States, the Federal Reserve System (FED) functions as the country’s central bank. As the central bank, the FED produces currency and lends money to the government and member banks, develops monetary policy, and provides other financial services and guidance to the nation’s financial system. Business organizations need to understand the Federal Reserve System and the nation’s financial system to effectively manage their financial resources.
• Write a 2-3-page report describing the Federal Reserve System, at least three services it provides to banks, and tools it uses to control the nation’s money supply. What impact do you believe the FED had on the recession that started in 2008? Refer to articles that justify your opinion of the impact.
