Canadian Indigenous Studies

This assignment is the second phase of your final paper. Using the outline you created with your
paper proposal, you will complete the final paper for this course. The ultimate goal of this
assignment is to demonstrate critical thinking and a grounded knowledge of Indigenous Eastern
Canada through the topic you have selected for your paper.
For this assignment, students will:
1. Identify a topic related to the course
2. Propose a general thesis statement
3. Explore and analyze the topic from various understandings and points of view using at
least ten academic/peer reviewed sources
4. Provide full citations were needed and a full bibliography at the end of the paper
General points about assignment submission:
This is a formal academic essay and will be marked on form (grammar, spelling, citations,
organization, prose quality), content (understanding of subject and use of evidence and sources),
and analysis (commentary, criticism, ability to present and weigh different arguments, and
originality).
Please include page numbers at the bottom of all pages and your name and student number in the
top left-hand corner of you first page.
Papers are to be 10 to 12 double spaced pages in length, written in 12 pt. Times New Roman
font, and use 1 inch margins (2.5 cms). Citations and bibliography should be completed using the
History department’s style guide, found at https://students.wlu.ca/programs/arts/history/styleguide.html.
Marks will be assigned in the following breakdown:
 25% Form
 35% Content
 40% Analysis
Students are required to hand in a hard copy of their paper at the beginning
of class and an electronic copy via the mylearningspace Dropbox
