Assignment Paper

Your assignment is to compose a persuasive essay in response to 3 or more articles or sources on your topic. All 3 (or more) articles can come from any legitimate source. You may NOT use any of the articles from our White & Billings textbook, but they are an excellent starting point for search strings…

You must rely on the articles for your main points, as these must be based on evidence, facts, empirical data, etc… You should quote your sources, cite statistics when necessary, and in general, support your ideas with proof.

Your choice of topics is based on the readings we have covered these first few weeks:
Either Intellectual Property, Media Regulation, or Globalization/National Security. These are your only 3 choices for a topic * (OR – pitch me a topic, we can negotiate  )

You should form a stance or opinion on your topic, form a pro or con argument, and formally state that early in your essay. Your articles can be on either side of the fence when it comes to your topic, as long as you strategically use the information and quotes. In other words, an article that seems to be in direct opposition to your point may still contain some perfect information to help you make your point. However, your essay MUST remain focused on only one opinion or side of the argument, otherwise it will not be an effective persuasive essay.

Finally, in a paragraph either before or after your formal conclusion (preferably before), you should offer your own opinion. You can make some suggestions, criticisms, condemnations, or offer praise. This is your opportunity to editorialize.
