Alexander the Great and Religion (Muslims and Jews)

Alexander the Great and the Jews
Alexander the Great spent most of his years invading and conquering parts of Asia and Northeast Africa through which he would gain his fame. Alexander was not only about his military conquest. He would go on to influence during his time the Jewish population around the time he visited Jerusalem in 332 BC. Alexander would understand the Jews and allow them their religion due to Alexander’s tutor Aristotle on teaching him about God and other beliefs. He would later go on to be in their writings, the Talmud. The Jews would then follow three rules given by Alexander before he went off to continue his conquest. Alexander would go down in history’s greatest texts such as the Talmud after his death. This would all be the same as for the Muslims, however he would go down in history as being a “devil” who ruined their history. So, was Alexander a savior or another downfall for the Jewish and Muslim population?
Present texts go on to support multiple views of Alexander’s ruling as being harsh or empathetic towards the Jews and Muslims. The Jews during his time and when he visited Jerusalem was during the time of their scriptures stating that his kingdom was stated in the word of Daniel. Alexander was not impressed by their religion or views and just brushed them off by allowing them to continue their practice as he obeyed their religion. Most of his history on the visit to Jerusalem was recorded by Josephus, an ancient Jewish historian.
The purpose of this study is to find out according to the Jewish population if Alexander the Great was a hero or villain when he came through Jerusalem and the rest of Persia for the Muslims. The main question is however, did Alexander the Great set their fate once his empire split in two after his passing?
This study is hoped to inform you more on Alexander the Great’s journey through Jerusalem and Persia and his effects on the Jews and Muslims during and after his passing.
